About the Principal

  • Ms. M. J. Stauder Ms. Mary J. Stauder is the principal of Garfield School.  She works with a wonderfully talented staff to provide an authentic learning experience using current and best practices as we lay the foundation in helping our students find their love for learning.  She has had the great privilege and honor of serving the Garfield School community for over 25 years. 

    Ms. Stauder arrived in Forest Park as a Second Grade student teacher assigned to the incomparable, Alice Slapinskas. During her tenure in District 91, Ms. Stauder has taught First, Second and Third grades.  She was District 91's first Technology Coordinator during the time of the Apple IIe.  Ms. Stauder spent many summers as the Director of Summer School, helping students maintain and learn new skills needed for the following school year.  As the enrollment in District 91 grew, Ms. Stauder was hired to serve as Assistant Principal for Garfield School in 2000.  When long time friend and mentor Principal John Ericksen retired, Ms. Stauder assumed the role of Principal in 2002. 
    Ms. Stauder received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Illinois University.  Shortly after beginning her work in Forest Park, she obtained a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University.  Ms. Stauder has an Advanced Certificate for Educational Leadership from Concordia University.   

    In her free time, Ms. Stauder enjoys reading, traveling, music, cooking, and spending time with family, including her three wonderful sons, and friends.

    Ms. Stauder knows that early interventions are crucial to the development of children in today's ever changing world.  She worked with a variety of staff to develop the Forest Park Preschool program in 2012.  This strong program is the building block for student success in our district and beyond.    Ms. Stauder is proud of the Garfield School community and the "family-like" environment in which her students and staff learn and grow.
