ACCELERATED KINDERGARTEN

Dear Parents and Guardians:

With the July 1, 2018 enactment of PL 100-0142, districts in Illinois are able to accelerate students into kindergarten before the state defined cut-off of five years old by September 1.  PL 100-0142 requires the district to use multiple measures to identify children who qualify for early admission into kindergarten. Forest Park District 91 requires the following:

  • Child has completed at least one year of preschool.

  • Child is five years old before November 1st

  • Social and Emotional Assessment

    • Completed by parent and preschool teacher

  • Academic Skills Assessment

    • To be scheduled with the school psychologist

    • Child scores in the 91st percentile

  • Intelligence Testing

    • To be scheduled with the school psychologist

    • Child scores in the 91st percentile

The required assessments will be completed by the District 91 school psychologist and reviewed by administrators. These assessments are standardized measures which inform the probability that the child will be successful if accelerated into kindergarten. Meeting or exceeding the cut-off scores for all assessments is required to qualify for early entry.

Requests for acceleration into kindergarten must be submitted in writing to the building principal no later than April 15th. This request will also serve as consent to administer assessments.

If you have any questions, please contact the principal of the school.
