Technology

District 91 students engage in learning in a 1:1 environment, which means every student has dedicated access to a device at all times.  Our youngest learners (Pre-K and Kindergarten) utilize iPads in the classroom, but also access to a Chromebook if the need to connect to the classroom remotely (Google Meet) should be necessary. Students in grades 1-8 are issued Chromebooks, with students in grades 3-8 expected to take their Chromebooks home at dismissal so they can be charged up and ready for the next day.

Please refer to the documents below regarding issuance of Chromebooks to students.

Difference Between Innovative Instruction & Technology

Many people may find the terms Innovation and Technology synonymous with each other, but there is a critical difference that is important to understanding our school district’s vision for learning.

In District 91, we classify Technology as a tool. Tools in a classroom environment can vary greatly: pencils, protractors, Chromebooks, etc. are all considered classroom tools. Technology allows users to complete tasks faster, with increased accuracy, and is considered fundamental for accelerating learning.

In District 91, we see Innovation as being the process of creating something new and valuable.  Innovation as a process can be creatively approaching a problem, accessing information locally and globally, collaborating with teammates and critically thinking toward a solution to present to others for feedback. Innovation is vital for encouraging creativity and amplifying the learning environment.

Together, both technology and innovative learning experiences are needed to prepare our students to become global citizens in an ever changing world.
