As winter weather approaches, Forest Park School District 91 is committed to ensuring the safety of our students, staff, and families. Our Winter Weather Procedures outline how we make decisions regarding school closures, early dismissals, and E-Learning Days in response to inclement weather.
How We Make Weather-Related Decisions
The district closely monitors weather conditions using National Weather Service reports and collaborates with school and district leadership to determine the best course of action. The decision-making process includes:
✅ Forecast Monitoring: Tracking weather conditions and potential impact on travel.
✅ District Coordination: Assessing road conditions and coordinating with local agencies.
✅ Evening Decision (if applicable): If hazardous conditions are expected to impact morning commutes, families will be notified by 6:00 PM the night before.
✅ Early Morning Review (4:30 AM): Weather conditions are reassessed with updated reports.
✅ Final Decision (if needed): If conditions change overnight, an update will be communicated by 5:00 AM.
School Closures & E-Learning Days
When in-person learning is not possible, the district will implement an E-Learning Day to ensure students remain engaged in learning:
Instruction will continue remotely.
Students are expected to complete assigned work, following their E-Learning schedules.
Teachers and staff will be available online during school hours for support.
What Happens If Snow or Ice Starts During School Hours?
If accumulation is expected to impact afternoon commutes, an early dismissal decision will be made and communicated as soon as possible.
If no significant accumulation is expected, school will remain in session on a normal schedule.
Afterschool activities may be canceled, with updates shared as soon as possible.
