Pop Top Fundraiser Field

Field-Stevenson School is proud to launch a student-led fundraiser benefitting the Ronald McDonald House, an organization that supports families while their children receive medical care. The fundraiser is simple, meaningful, and something every student can help with by collecting aluminum pop tabs (pop tops) from cans.

This schoolwide initiative is being organized by Lincoln Jacknow, who wanted to bring back a challenge our school participated in previously. “We did a challenge two years ago and I really liked participating, so I was hoping to bring this back to Field Stevenson. I also learned about Ronald McDonald House and how they help families who have kids who are sick.”

This time, Lincoln hopes the fundraiser does more than spark friendly competition. He wants it to build empathy and encourage students to make a difference. “It’s important for kids to become involved so they can learn about other peoples’ experiences and challenges. I want them to know it’s easy to be helpful to others,” Lincoln said.

Principal Mrs. Susan Bogdan praised the student-led effort and the values it represents. “We are truly proud. When our students take the initiative to help others, without expecting anything in return, it shows that they are learning far more than what any textbook can teach. Seeing them recognize their own opportunities and choose to support others is a meaningful reminder of the kindness and generosity we strive to foster in our community.”

Ronald McDonald House uses pop tabs as a recycling fundraiser: they collect the aluminum tabs, take them to a recycling/scrap facility, and the money earned from the recycled aluminum goes into supporting the House’s operations.

The pop tab drive will run as a schoolwide competition from January 12 through March 19. Students can bring pop tabs to school any day and add them to the collection jug in their classroom. Lincoln and his mom, Pamela Jacknow, will help monitor and weigh each class’s pop tabs throughout the fundraiser. Classes will be able to track progress on a thermometer display posted at school. At the end of the competition, the class with the highest total weight collected will earn a pizza party!

Thank you for helping Field-Stevenson show that small actions can make a big difference; one pop tab at a time.
