Saturday Academy Celebration

Saturday Academy wrapped up on February 21 after six weeks of focused learning and growth for Forest Park Middle School 7th and 8th grade students. The program was facilitated by Be Able Learning, an educational organization dedicated to accelerating student growth through high-impact literacy and skill development programs. Through engaging, standards-aligned instruction that strengthens critical thinking and executive functioning skills, Be Able partners with schools nationwide to support measurable academic gains.

At FPMS, students received targeted support in English, Math, and executive functioning skills, helping them strengthen academic foundations while building habits that will serve them well in high school and beyond.

Parents shared their appreciation for the opportunity. Maerisha Morris said, β€œI signed up my son to strengthen his skills and help him prepare for high school. I know it’s going to be a big transition, and I want to take advantage of any support, especially something in a small setting, because I know he will get a lot out of it.”

Passion Segura added, β€œI’m proud of my son for participating. I think Saturday Academy is important because he wants to do well in middle and high school, and I know he is walking away from this experience with skills he otherwise wouldn’t have.”

Students also recognized the impact. Eighth grader Nolan Davis shared that he β€œappreciated the time management tips. Those are skills I’m taking with me.” Gregory Segura added, β€œSaturday Academy was a great thing for me to do. Everything that we worked on was explained in a clear and positive way. I’m confident that what I learned will help me in the future.”

FPMS Principal Terriyaka Watson emphasized the value of the program: β€œI truly believe Saturday Academy is important because it gives our scholars that extra individualized time and more targeted support. In this more personalized environment, we’re able to really focus on specific skills and meet each scholar’s unique learning needs with intentionality. This kind of focused attention can make a real difference in building both confidence and achievement.”

Latoya McRae, School Engagement Coordinator and Saturday Academy Program Lead, highlighted the broader impact: β€œBeyond academics, Saturday Academy fosters critical thinking, self-assurance, and resilienceβ€”qualities that are vital for a successful transition from middle school to high school. Students build confidence as they master new concepts, engage in collaborative learning, and develop stronger organizational habits.”
